The merger between Aster DM Healthcare and Blackstone-backed Quality Care India Limited (QCIL), in a deal that will value the combined entity at $5.08 billion (Rs 43,000 crore), represents a significant development for India’s healthcare industry.

In the merged entity, Aster promoters and Blackstone will hold 24% and 30.7% stakes, respectively, while the balance 45.3% will be owned by other shareholders.

CNBC-TV18 had reported on August 4 this year about the discussions between the two companies, aimed at expanding Aster DM’s hospital network.

The merger between Aster DM Healthcare and QCIL, valued at $5.08 billion, forms Aster DM Quality Care, the third-largest hospital chain in India. The entity will operate 38 hospitals with plans to increase bed capacity significantly over the next two years.

Aster DM Healthcare has announced a merger with Blackstone-backed CARE Hospitals with the Bengaluru-based company, leading to the creation of Aster DM Quality Care, which will be among the top three players in India with 38 hospitals and a presence in 27 cities of the country.

The combined entity will have a portfolio of brands, including Aster DM, CARE Hospitals, KIMSHEALTH, and Evercare.

Aster DM Healthcare Limited will acquire 1.9 crore shares of QCIL at Rs 445.8 per share. The board approved allotment of 1.86 crore shares of the company to QCIL shareholders.
