A newly-named storm, named Conall, is forecast to bring heavy rain to southern England and Wales, hitting communities still cleaning up from Storm Bert. The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for rainfall in several southern areas of the UK from 22:00 GMT on Tuesday until midday on Wednesday.

Heavy rain last night has resulted in 16 flood warnings being in place across Hampshire this morning (Wednesday, November 27) in the wake of Storm Conall.

Storm Conall has seen torrential rain fall in large parts of the country, triggering flooding and travel chaos.

Heavy showers descended on Portsmouth overnight with the rain persisting throughout the morning. The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain yesterday, with Storm Conall impacting large parts of the UK. It was put in place at 10pm on November 26 and will continue until 12pm today.

Trains have been cancelled in parts of southern England after heavy rainfall flooded railway lines during Storm Conall. No trains are running between Tonbridge and Redhill, Ascot and Aldershot, and Ryde Esplanade and Ryde St Johns Road on the Isle of Wight,

Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock were forecast to feel the strongest impact of rainfall that could reach 30-40mm in some areas. Residents have been warned disruption to travel and infrastructure was likely during the inclement weather.

The environment secretary Steve Reed also warned more flooding is “likely” this week, although the impact “should be less severe” after at least two people died during the storm. Two yellow weather warnings for potentially heavy rain will be in place in parts of London,

Another named storm is set to hit parts of the UK on Wednesday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. Up to 50mm of rain is expected across southern England, including parts of south London, following the Met Office's issuance of a new yellow weather warning.
